  • 1Day 1: Rodez market, hiking and local specialties
  • 2Day 2: Museums, brunch and mountain bike roadtrip

Want to discover Occitanie? We understand, because this region is full of wonders! Among them: the pretty town of Rodez, prefecture of Aveyron, where our reporter Margaux, aka @margauxtravelatlas on Instagram, had the opportunity to travel by night train. She tells you all about it!

Day 1: Rodez market, hiking and local specialties

The INTERCITÉS night train was the ideal solution for arriving in Rodez rested and ready to explore. Leaving Paris, I was transported straight to the heart of Aveyron. In great shape to start my day of discoveries!

Saturday morning Rodez market

The morning began with an immersion in the friendly atmosphere of the Rodez market. Located on the Place du Bourg and in the narrow streets of the historic center, this market is bursting with local produce: farmhouse cheeses, artisanal charcuterie and seasonal fruit. It's the perfect opportunity to sample an aligot and take home some local specialties.

Hiking on the GR62 between Rodez and Conques

The afternoon was ideal for a nature walk on the GR62, a path linking Rodez to Conques. Crossing the Aveyron countryside, this walk lets you enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside and admire Rodez from afar.

Dinner at Bistrot Populos in Rodez

After a busy day, I headed off to Bistrot Populos. This restaurant, renowned for its seasonal cuisine, offers a reduced menu with tasty dishes.

Day 2: Museums, brunch and mountain bike roadtrip

Visit to the Soulages and Fenaille museums

The next day, I took the time to discover Rodez's cultural treasures by visiting its flagship museums. The Musée Soulages, dedicated to the artist Pierre Soulages, offers an insight into the world of abstraction. The Musée Fenaille, meanwhile, takes visitors on a journey through the history of Aveyron, with its impressive archaeological collection.
