Weekend in Northern Alsace: where to stay in Haguenau and Wissembourg?
About Clo&Clem
Hi there! We’re Claudia and Clément. We've been exploring France and the world for over 10 years, always looking for well-known and hidden gems. Feel free to follow us on Instagram and YouTube: whether as a couple or as a family, get ready to travel with us!

Alsace is especially known for its famous Wine Route, a legendary itinerary that takes you through postcard-perfect villages. But there’s more to Alsace than vineyards. The lesser-known northern part is full of hidden treasures worth exploring too. From Strasbourg, you can easily take the regional train (TER) to towns like Haguenau or Wissembourg. That’s what we did for a weekend — and here’s where we spent the night.

Champ’Alsace Centre: A Quirky Hotel Right Across from Haguenau Station

Haguenau is just 20 minutes by train from Strasbourg. You can do a day trip — but if you want to stay longer, it’s definitely possible to sleep there.

We spent the night at Champ’Alsace Centre, right across from the train station. Haguenau is a small town that’s easy to explore on foot, so the hotel is ideally located for discovering the main sights of the city center.

At first glance, the hotel’s decor might surprise you — each room has its own theme: Africa, Italy, Mexico, Titanic... there's something for everyone. We stayed in the Rallye d’Alsace room, created in honor of Sébastien Loeb, the famous rally driver who was born in Haguenau. The theme was fully embraced, even the bed had tires! It’s kitschy, original, fun, and offbeat.

  • Address: 1, rue Saint George, 67500 Haguenau
  • Price: €92 to €153 per night

Les Gîtes du Dominicain: A Cozy Nest in the Heart of Wissembourg’s Historic Center

A complete change of scenery with this cosy apartment nestled under the roof of a half-timbered house built in 1732. Les Gîtes du Dominicain is located right in the historic center of the charming town of Wissembourg, less than an hour by TER from Strasbourg.

The apartment is spacious and fully equipped with everything you need to cook. It’s a great option whether you're traveling as a couple, with friends, or family — in addition to the bed, there’s a sofa bed.

The exposed beams blend perfectly with the modern, carefully curated decor. We also recommend trying the onsite bistronomic restaurant, Le Petit Dominicain. Just like the gîte, it offers a delightful mix of traditional dishes with a modern twist.

  • Address: 36, rue Nationale, Wissembourg
  • Price: €100 to €110 per night
