When thinking of Alsatian cuisine, you probably picture hearty dishes based on meat, charcuterie, and sauerkraut. But in reality, Alsace offers a wide range of dishes and desserts that vary with the seasons.

In addition to classics like Kougelhopf, flammekueche (tarte flambée), quark tart, pretzels, and spaetzle, you can enjoy delicious white and green asparagus in May. We also loved the rhubarb meringue tart — a must-try!

Haguenau and Wissembourg are full of great places to eat. Here are four very different restaurants that highlight local products:

  • Le Jacques: A warm, cozy restaurant where gastronomy takes center stage. The menu features creative takes on local produce — we tasted delicious sauerkraut spring rolls!
    • Address: 1 Place d’Armes, Haguenau
    • Price: €€
  • Safe Haven: This is a nonprofit café that originally opened to provide a welcoming space for students. Today, it offers a variety of workshops and social gatherings. You’ll find open-faced sandwiches and fresh salads prepared by volunteers. The homemade pastries are excellent!
    • Address: 1 Place d’Armes, Haguenau
    • Price: €
  • Au Petit Dominicain: A family-run restaurant that’s been in the heart of Wissembourg’s old town for 60 years. The menu mixes traditional recipes with exotic touches — you’ll see flammekueche and aligot side by side with bao buns and beef tataki. The terrace at the back of the beautiful 1732 timbered house is especially charming.
    • Address: 36 Rue Nationale, Wissembourg
    • Price: €€
  • L’Abbaye Restaurant: Located near the Saints Peter and Paul Abbey, this bistronomic spot serves generous, comforting dishes. The chef learned to cook with his grandmother, and you can feel it in the food — authentic and heartwarming.
    • Address: 5 Quai du 24 Novembre, 67160 Wissembourg
    • Price: €€
