Our favorite eco-friendly accommodations in Creuse

In the heart of the beautiful Creuse region, there's no shortage of comfortable, eco-friendly accommodation. Here are our favorites, combining charm, eco-responsibility and accessibility by bike: perfect for joining our cycling itinerary around the department.

1. Hôtel du Lac

This hotel-restaurant, located in Crozant in the middle of our cycling route, offers the perfect break. Relatively basic, it offers all the comforts needed for a short stay, and some rooms offer a sublime view of the lake or the ruins of Crozant. After a day's cycling, whether from the town of La Souterraine or following a day-trip to Fresselines, feel free to take a shower as the hotel recycles shower water to avoid waste. The hotel also has an excellent restaurant, offering a variety of dishes made with local ingredients.

Address : Pont de Crozant, Le Goutatin, 23160 Crozant

Price : from €75/night

2. Hôtel Passe Muraille

Located in the heart of the historic center of La Souterraine, this hotel is ideal for starting (or ending) your stay in the Creuse region; the train station, less than 10 minutes from the hotel, has direct trains to Paris and Toulouse. The accommodation has a shelter to secure your bikes and welcomes you in rustic but comfortable rooms. For lunch or dinner, this is your perfect opportunity to eat local; the hotel's restaurant offers an extensive menu of regional dishes, including a multitude of vegetarian options. If you're looking for a quiet place to stay, Hôtel Passe Muraille is the perfect spot!

Address : 16 place Docteur Emile Parrain, 23300 La Souterraine

Price : from €65/night

3.Les Cabanes de Lou-loup

If you're looking for a truly authentic experience, these wooden cabins are your perfect getaway. There's no better way to get away from it all than in the Cabanes de Lou-loup, which are completely self-sufficient because they're not connected to the gas, water or electricity networks. The cabins are powered by a simple water tank and solar panels, allowing you to live in harmony with nature. Located in the habitat of a pack of huskies, you can enjoy unique activities with them! This option is perfect for a total disconnect, whether with family or friends; the three cabins accommodate 5-8 people.

Address : Fournoue, 23000 Anzême

Price : from €90/night

4. La Maison Bleue 23

Located in Sardent, not far from the town of Guéret, La Maison Bleue offers a peaceful and comfortable haven. You'll have access to a huge garden, equipped with a terrace, a hammock and even a 100% natural swimming pool! This accommodation has a higher CO2-score from GreenGo due to its use of mostly natural materials in its construction, as well as its vegetable garden and orchard. The garden produces a lot of food for the house; fruit trees and berry bushes (raspberries...) are accessible to all! Enjoy delicious treats while enjoying the beautiful setting. And for even more relaxation, you can ask for a massage...

Address : 11 La Rebeyrolle, 23250 Sardent

Price : from €110/night

5. La Maison de Fleurat

This house, in addition to being awarded a maximum eco-score by GreenGo website thanks to its excellent waste, water and energy management, also boasts the “Compatible sans voiture” label, a symbol of its easy access for cyclists or hikers! The owners selected this home with the aim of making it self-sufficient; it has a phyto- purified spring used to water their garden (including the vegetables you'll be served!) and give water to their animals. Many hike options are possible from the property, which also has a Nordic bath! Perfect for relaxing after a long walk. The hosts also offer a range of activities, from yoga and massage to horseback riding, for the perfect 100% relaxing stay in the middle of the Creuse. Arriving by train + bike? The accommodation is just a 30-minute bike ride from the Parsac - Gouzon TER station.

Address : 8 Fleurat, 23140 Domeyrot

Price : from €110/night

6. Écogîte 1001nuitsenberry

Sleeping in this eco-accommodation not far from the end of our cycle route through the Creuse and the Vallée des Peintres is an excellent way to extend your Berrichonne experience. The house offers panoramic views over the Creuse valley; the banks of the Creuse itself are only 15 min away from the accommodation, which is located in a quiet spot surrounded by picturesque villages. Recently renovated with eco-friendly materials, the house is heated by solar panels, and rainwater is used to flush the toilets. The property has also been awarded the Gîtes de France (3-star), Écogîte and Gîte Panda labels, three networks for environmentally-friendly tourist accommodations.

Note that this accommodation is not in the Creuse region, but is located in the Indre department on the HOURRAIL! cycle route through the Creuse. The Argenton-sur-Creuse station (direct trains to Paris or Toulouse) is just 10 minutes by bike from the accommodation.

Address : 3 rue du Manoir, 36200 Le Pêchereau

Price : from €72/night
