You may have never heard of the small coastal town of Bidart; not far from the better-known Biarritz and Anglet, it's less known to tourists. And yet, with its 7,000 inhabitants, this little town has plenty to keep you busy for a weekend. Here are our 3 recommendations for things to do in Bidart!

Here, the local sport is Basque pelota. The sport is often referred to as "the fastest ball sport in the world". At their workshop, named "Ona Pilota" ("the good pelota"), brothers and pelota champions Jon and Patxi Tambourindeguy teach you the history of the sport, share their expertise and introduce you to the rules of the game. They opened this workshop in their childhood village out of a desire to share their passion and skills with the world. So, are you ready to step onto the cancha (playing field) and test your abilities? (Thrills and laughter guaranteed!)

What do you mean, Bidart isn't flat? Well, on the Uhabia greenway it is. The 6km walk runs along the banks of the Uhabia river, takes you near the Ur Onea chapel, and ends at the Bassilour mill. The road is perfect for all types of two-wheeler (bike, scooter...) as well as for walking, thanks to its pleasant lack of relief. Even skaters and road cyclists will find plenty to do here, as the greenway is paved. At one point, the route crosses the Vélodyssée, another cycle path that allows you to continue pedaling along the Atlantic coast... all the way to Brittany! Well, you don't have to go that far: the Uhabia greenway will let you discover the village of Bidart by crossing it from west to east. Feeling a bit hungry? There are picnic areas along the way, including one at the Ur Onea basin, opposite a pretty chapel.
