I've had the chance to make several short stays in the Austrian capital, and one of the things that struck me the most is the abundance of vegetarian options. It's really rare to find a restaurant that doesn't have any options for people who don't eat meat. I even had the opportunity to try the famous schnitzel, the Viennese-style cutlet, but in a vegetarian version! In this article, I’ll share the best places for delicious meals that won't weigh heavily on your carbon footprint.
This is not a beef tartare!
Here, all the dishes are vegetarian or vegan, generous, and designed to be shared! The menu changes regularly with the seasons and the fresh produce, mainly from local and organic productions. Inventive salads, gourmet toasts, creamy risottos, or stews. Each plate offers a true culinary journey where flavors and textures blend perfectly and with originality. Perfect for a convivial and tasty moment. However, it is a fairly upscale restaurant. For the "Sharing Chef's garden" menu, expect to pay €57 per person, which is quite high but totally justified considering the quality and quantity.

I personally chose the Tofu and Vegetable Stir-Fry
On a tight budget? No problem, there are plenty of options too. Head to one of the city's most famous markets for affordable dishes (€10 to €20 for a complete menu) and a friendly atmosphere. The chef, originally from Israel, offers authentic and inventive Levantine cuisine, made with fresh, seasonal, local, and organic products. You'll even find several vegetarian and vegan options. What more could you ask for?

Unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to personally try this restaurant, which has been recommended to me several times and is highly rated on Google Maps. Ideally located in the heart of Vienna’s historic center, just steps away from the majestic St. Stephen's Cathedral, this establishment offers a wide range of healthy and vegetarian dishes. Many reviews also mention a lovely terrace and welcoming staff. Feel free to form your own opinion and share your experience with us!
