After more than two years of delays, it’s official: the TGV M, the next generation of TGV inOui trains, will make its maiden voyage on Friday, November 6, 2026, from Paris Gare de Lyon to Marseille. Here’s a look at what we already know—and what we’re still waiting to find out.
The TGV M will depart from Paris Gare de Lyon on Friday, November 6, bound for Marseille. SNCF Voyageurs ended the suspense on Wednesday evening by inviting the press on board. Jean Castex (CEO of the SNCF Group), Jean-Aimé Mougenot (CEO of SNCF Voyageurs), Karine Dussert-Sarthe (Director of TGV-Intercités), and Transportation Secretary Philippe Tabarot will be making the trip.
The choice of the Paris-Lyon-Marseille route is no coincidence: it is the first route served by the TGV M, and it is also where Trenitalia is already competing with the SNCF. A total of 160 trains were ordered from Alstom, including 30 for Eurostar. According to the SNCF, more than 9 out of 10 passengers gave a positive or very positive rating during the tests conducted this summer.

The TGV M was originally scheduled to begin service in time for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Its launch was subsequently announced for 2025, then early 2026, July 1, 2026, and early September 2026.
On May 29, 2026, the train received its marketing authorization from the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA). On September 11, SNCF Voyageurs and Alstom postponed the launch once again until the fall, to allow time to finalize onboard adjustments following the pre-commercial test runs conducted over the summer.
What about November 2? The Trayn website had reported that TGV M trains would be running between Paris and Nice starting November 2, but SNCF Voyageurs has not confirmed that date. So November 6 is definitely the date to keep in mind.
On SNCF Connect, select your 1st-class train and click “Choose my seat.” If car 3 is shown as a single-level car with a large, accessible restroom, there’s a good chance it’s a TGV M. Please note: the seating chart isn’t available for all trains, and the train configuration may still change before departure.
A two-level bistro, bike parking, wider seats, and a car you can drive completely on your own… We got on board before it went into service: We'll give you a tour of the inside of the TGV M here:
