Would you like to discover the Communauté d'Agglomérations du Grand Guéret? This small center of the Creuse region boasts cobbled streets, stone houses and a typical rural heritage. And the good news is that Grand Guéret is accessible by train, with entry points in Paris, Limoges and Brive.
Greater Guéret comprises 25 municipalities centered around its main city, but when it comes to rail travel, there is only one gateway: the Guéret train station, just a stone’s throw from downtown, on the line Limoges – Guéret – Montluçon – Clermont-Ferrand.
From Paris-Austerlitz, Several direct trains run to the city of Guéret every day, with no transfers, for a trip of about 5 hours. Other trains require a transfer in Limoges.
From Limoges-Bénédictins, The TER ride is much shorter: just over an hour, with numerous round-trips every day. It’s the ideal gateway if you’re coming from elsewhere in France and passing through the Limousin region.
Another possible access point: Brive-la-Gaillarde, which is well-served by TGV and Intercités trains from throughout the southwest. There is no direct connection to Guéret, but with a transfer in Limoges, the total travel time is about 2 hours and 15 minutes.
A little-known bonus: the town of Montaigut-le-Blanc, located south of the metropolitan area, also has a TER stop, just 13 minutes from Guéret. This is a convenient option if you're staying in that part of the region.
Once you arrive at the Guéret train station, The entire Greater Guéret area is now accessible: the network Agglo'Bus It serves the city center with its urban lines, while on-demand shuttle services—organized into four sectors (north, east, south, west)—connect the 25 municipalities in the metropolitan area by simple reservation. All routes depart from and arrive in front of the SNCF train station, which makes transfers a whole lot easier.
