How to reach Creuse by train?

Since Paris-Austerlitz, La Souterraine is the fastest way to get to the department: the historic Paris-Orléans-Limoges-Toulouse (POLT) line takes you there directly in just under 3 hours, with several trains running daily.

Still from Paris-Austerlitz, heading toward Guéret, the prefecture: takes just under 5 hours, with one transfer at Limoges, the same POLT line as for La Souterraine, then a TER to Guéret.

Since Toulouse, There is also a direct Intercités train to La Souterraine, taking just over 4 hours—convenient for those arriving from the south.

Finally, since Limoges, the closest major city to the department, a direct TER train takes you to Guéret in just over an hour, with several daily departures.

Once there, regional bus line 210 connects La Souterraine to Guéret and then Felletin, making it a convenient way to reach the southern part of the department without a car.

What to do by train in Creuse?

The best way to explore Creuse is through its valleys and villages, each with its own unique character:

• The Valley of the Painters, around Crozant and Fresselines: Claude Monet himself set up his easel there in 1889. Climb up to the Rocher de la Fileuse for a spectacular view of the medieval ruins of Crozant, or take a canoe trip down the Creuse River to Lake Éguzon.
