To connect Kars (Turkey 🇹🇷) to Batumi (Georgia 🇬🇪) By train, the trip is divided into two legs:
1. Kars → Tbilisi via the BTK Line (Baku–Tbilisi–Kars)
This is the railway line that opened in 2017 and crosses the Turkish-Georgian border. It connects Kars to Tbilisi, with one change or transfer depending on available services.
2. Tbilisi → Batumi
On June 1, 2026, Georgia relaunched the modernized Tbilisi–Batumi rail service, reducing the travel time from five hours to four hours.

The entire Kars–Batumi trip can therefore be done entirely by train, with an overnight stay in Tbilisi to enjoy the Georgian capital—which is no sacrifice at all.
